Hi, I’m Ashley

I'm Ashley Sharpe — born in Baldwin County and running for District 22 because this state has been my home for generations, and its people deserve better.

I didn't come from privilege. I worked in restaurants from the age of 16 to support myself and help my family. I left college when I couldn't afford to stay.

I worked my way up in the service industry, cared for my father—an Army veteran—through a terminal illness, and navigated a healthcare system that failed him more than once.

My family has relied on food stamps and church assistance. I understand what it means to struggle and the importance of government support during tough times.

Those experiences didn't break me. What they did was make me pay attention.

From Service to Public Service

I've spent my life dedicated to serving others: As a missionary providing ESL classes in Texas, as a caregiver at an assisted living facility, and as a Corrections Officer with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.

I graduated magna cum laude from Coastal Alabama Community College and am now studying Criminology & Criminal Justice at the University of Alabama.

Every role I've held has pointed me toward the same truth:

Real change happens when people in power actually give a damn about the people they serve.
A large group of people gathered on a bridge with a sign reading 'Edmund Pettus Bridge.' Some are holding signs and a large banner celebrating Rev. Jesse Jackson. The sky is cloudy.
People protesting at a street corner holding signs with messages about social justice and history, with a brick building and traffic lights in the background.
Group of friends smiling at an outdoor gathering during sunset, wearing campaign and Mardi Gras beads, with some holding drinks, in a city street setting.

Why I’m a Democrat

I grew up conservative. I expected to vote Republican. But as I paid closer attention, I realized the party's actions didn't match the values I was raised with: Caring for the poor, the elderly, and the vulnerable.

Instead, I found those values reflected in the Democratic platform, and I haven't looked back.

What I’m Running On

Affordable housing.
Expanded healthcare.
Strong public schools.
Voting rights.
Human dignity.
And a criminal justice system that prevents crime rather than just punishing it.

Alabama is my home. It always will be. And I'm running to make sure it works for all of us.
