Ashley Sharpe is promising to cut through red Republican tape in her bid to unseat State Sen. Greg Albritton in the 2026 Midterm Elections.

Sharpe, 33, says she will bring voters together to “claim our power and replace the GOP lawmakers who work for the benefit of the privileged over the common person.”

“I will vote to make daily life easier for those struggling to build a decent and dignified quality of life,” she said. “Albritton, for decades, has joined with other GOP state Senators to make the lives of working-class Alabamians more difficult.”

Sharpe is a Criminal Justice student at the University of Alabama who was raised in Alabama and Mississippi.

“Republicans always say they’re tough on crime, yet there are no results because crime prevention is more than just incarceration,” she said.

Growing up in a Conservative family, Sharpe found an early call to public service in Girl Scouts and church groups. As a young adult with a diverse circle of friends, she had an epiphany working in the Black Lives Matter movement.

“The Republican party's stance on issues like helping the poor and needy seemed completely opposite to the values I was taught in church,” Sharpe said. “I learned that a society can be judged by the way it treats its weakest and most vulnerable members.”

She knows first-hand what that means. She worked at Domino's and drove for Uber since she was 16 to support herself and help her family, whose heritage spans generations of military service in the Army, Navy, and Marines. Her family knows what it is to rely on food stamps and church assistance. Sharpe worked at an assisted living center while she cared for her father, an Army veteran who found himself homeless at one point in his life, as he battled pulmonary fibrosis.

“But this campaign isn’t about me,” she said. “It’s about what I will do for you.”

Here’s Sharpe’s plan to cut through GOP red tape:

HEALTHCARE

Sharpe will vote to expand Medicaid. Albritton has voted repeatedly against it. Sharpe will vote to protect reproductive rights. Albritton voted to ban common forms of abortion.

AFFORDABILITY

Sharpe will vote for programs to help families to improve their quality of life. Albritton voted to reduce the number of weeks a worker can receive unemployment benefits.

HUMAN EQUALITY

Sharpe will vote to respect and preserve the culture and heritage of all races and genders. Albritton voted to prohibit “divisive concepts” in diversity, equity, and inclusion. programs, to regulate public restrooms based on biological sex and voted for the What is a Woman Bill.

VOTING RIGHTS

Sharpe will vote to aid all voters in accessing their Constitutional right to vote and have a voice in government. Albritton voted for a government-appointed Board of Education, to prevent the disabled and elderly from getting help with absentee ballots and to ban drive-through voting.

JUSTICE

Sharpe will vote to abolish the death penalty in Alabama. She would vote against measures no in the Legislature, which outline policy for local and state police to cooperate with ICE and to detain residents. She will support prison reform promoting humane and rehabilitative programs and restoring voting rights for incarcerated people. Albritton voted to divert federal COVID relief  money to build a new prison and to allow the state to borrow $500 million to build a new prison.
